From Seven Generations of Physicians of Chinese Medicine
While the youngest of four daughters, Wei Li alone earned the sum of her father’s knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. Born in Hefei, of the Anhui province of China, she took an interest in Chinese medicine from an early age, and began studying acupuncture and herbal medicines at the age of 12 under the tutelage of her father. Within 5 years of study, she opened her own practice in acupuncture and the prescription of herbal medicine. Since then she has also studied many traditional treatises with considerable depth, including works that treat the fine details of acupuncture and of uncommon herbal remedies. Four years later, with greater aspirations and her parents’ support, Wei Li attended the Anhui Medical University, and graduated magna cum laude with a medical degree in western medicine. She then went on to graduate school to specialize in nephrology in both eastern and western medicine, again graduating magna cum laude. Within one year of her graduation, her medical research papers were twice awarded first place in the Anhui Province. Wei Li has practiced acupuncture and herbal medicine for more than 30 years. Since coming to the United States, she taught at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) for over 12 years while building her own practice in Portland. She practices currently in both Portland and Salem. Wei Li’s Diseases of the Kidney & Bladder (first published in hardcover under the title, Clinical Nephrology in Chinese Medicine, in November of 2003) is the first complete textbook and clinical reference published in the English language on the Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment of kidney and bladder diseases.
